Detailed description of Spring Valley Country Club

Spring Valley Country Club is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Salem, Wisconsin.

Spring Valley Country Club first opened for play in 1926. The course was designed by William B. Langford and Theodore J. Moreaux

Spring Valley has narrow, tree-lined fairways and water hazards that come into play on three holes. Grass bunkers are located throughout the course. This course was built on rolling terrain so expect a few uneven lies. The greens are large, sloped, fast and a few are elevated.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,354 yards. From the forward tees, the course plays to 5,135 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 4, a par-5 that plays to 556 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 134 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 1, the 556 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Spring Valley Country Club is # 11, a 162 yard par-3.

The most memorable thing for me was the periscope at the first tee! Instead of prior golfers ringing a bell to signal they're beyond reach, you have a periscope to view well down the fairway! Cool! (One or two more holes have the same, and #9 &18 could stand to have as well!)

# 2 (par 5) can be a bit confusing, where (from men's tees) you see what appears to be two fairways. The left is actually the rough, out of bounds. (Even though it seems mowed and maintained quite nicely!) If you look forward to the right, you'll see the ladies tee, marking your intended route.

# 4 (the second par 5) has you hit up to a 'saddle' before you see a fair-sized pond protecting the green, set back into trees on all sides.

# 5 (par 3) features an elevated tee shooting across a pond to an elevated green. Confidence here to hit the green (and stick it!), or you're definitely looking at extra shots.

# 6 (par 4) features quite the rolling fairway.

# 7 (par 3): you tee from one hillside, across a hollow, to a raised green which slopes off to front-left. Errant shots will cost you here (though scorecard lists "Free Lift - Area left of 7th Green").

Anyway . . . you get the idea . . . many memorable ups and downs. Definitely a course to check out!

This course should be designated a historical site and protected. A vintage Langford course. Super sporty and fun. The owners do a great job maintaining it and the food is very good.
